His First HYROX at 67. And He Didn't Stop There.
At 67, Gary decided to take on something completely new: his first HYROX. He hadn't raced for around 50 years and didn't have a background in running or weightlifting. He came to Wilder Fitness, and over the next nine months we worked towards getting him ready for that start line.
Where Gary Started
Gary wasn't coming into HYROX with years of running or strength training behind him. He was taking on a new challenge, and we had time to prepare properly. The goal wasn't to rush him into a race. It was to help him develop the fitness, strength and confidence he needed along the way.
Nine Months of Preparation
Over those nine months, we worked on building Gary's running, strength and fitness so he could take on the different demands of HYROX. The training progressed as he did, giving him time to develop rather than trying to do everything at once.
Getting Started
Building a consistent training routine and developing the fitness needed for his new challenge.
Building Confidence
Progressively working on running, strength and the different movements involved in HYROX.
Getting Race Ready
Bringing his preparation together as his first HYROX approached.

What’s Next?
Gary didn't stop after completing his first HYROX. He came back for another race, improved his time and has continued working towards his next challenge. He's now preparing for his third HYROX.
